My version of events up to the birth :twisted::

Baby Girl Wilson (hey, that's what the hospital tag said!)

This story starts back on Oct 6th.

Emilie went to the ob/gyn in the morning, all was well, they told her that she would probably have the kid by the end of the day or the next day. Then a few hours later her contractions started (itty bitty ones) Chris proceeds to freaking out mode (but in a funny, lovable way). To prepare for the arrival he went to the grocery story across the street and bought four bottles of water (they don't have water at hospitals apparently) I get ready to leave work a few hours early so that I can get down there sooner (they are a two hour drive away from me). So I get home a wee bit earlier than normal, finish packing and hop in the car and I'm off.

I arrive at the Wilson residence at 7:15, at which time apparently Emilie turns to Chris (they were napping) and says "Megan is here, and I'm having a bitch of a cramp" Nice girl that she is, Emilie decided to wait until the moment I arrived to actually start "active labor" So we hang out for a short bit, then I take Em over to her parents house. The contractions are about 10 minutes apart, but only every other one or so is bad. We hang out and chat, then it's back to Chris and Emilie's. Chris's mom then comes over (she's on baby duty, as well as me) We hang out, watch Em have contractions, and watch Chris freak out in spurts. I have a stop watch to try and time the contractions. They start happening every 6 minutes 20 seconds, so we decide we should be writing them down. Chris wanders around the house looking for the perfect pen and paper, this takes 2-3 contractions to happen. In other words about 15 minutes. As much fun as it is to watch Emilie have contractions while the cat is trying to crawl into her lap, she decides to try laying down for a while. All the while everyone is trying to figure out how strong a contraction has to be before calling the hospital.
Laying down didn't really help poor Em. So around 1:00 am the hospital is called, they say to come in for a labor check, it would take about 1-2 hours and we'd probably come home afterwards to wait some more. So we get ready to head to the hospital. Keep in mind, Chris and Emilie have had their bags packed and in the car since Wednesday. Chris, though, is still wandering in and out of the house trying to find what he'd forgotten to pack. Finally, 20 minutes later we are out of the house.

We get to the hospital. We must enter through the emergency room, since it is the middle of the night, all other entrances are closed. There is a surly rent-a-cop at the door asking us what we are doing. We point to pregnant woman, he seems to get it. We find the materinty ward. We can't find a nurse anywhere. And the ward is under construction, just further confusing us. Finally we get there and find someone. Em gets put in a room and disrobed. Half an hour later or so, they decide to admit her, since she's at 5 cm (10 cm is pushing time). So at 2 am Saturday morning Emilie was admited to the hospital...hey, this is actually going to happen!

I help Chris get the afformentioned luggage from the car. I didn't pack that much stuff, and I'm staying at their place for a week. I carry in a large diaper bag, rolling suitcase, bobi pillow(for nursing). Chris has a duffel bag, two pillows, a laptop and a blanket (maybe another bag too). We go back in again, and are further harrassed by the rent a cop. Apparently when you aren't with a pregnant woman it's harder to say that you are having a baby. Chris is freaking out "but my wife is in the maternity ward in labor" So I sign us in and we get name tags with numbers (the reason? No clue) We finally get back to the ward, a nurse sees us and comments "a bit excessive?" Talking about the amount of baggage we have. Hey, I didn't do the packing!

Poor Chris is totally exhausted. We (rose and I) get Em out of bed and take her for a walk around the hospital. Pregnant women in labor walk slow ;) We wander around, stopping for contractions and requisit rubbing of Em's back. we are gone for close to an hour. We get back to the room and Chris is curled up in the chair, trying to get a nap. By this time, Emilie is begging for drugs. They have to call in a doctor, so we wait. Chris doesn't think she needs and epidural, thinks that she can tough it out. Finally the doctor shows up, and kicks Rose and I out of the room while they drug her. We go hit the vending machince for caifinee and sugar.

We finally head back, after our imposed exile. It's about 5 am now. Em looks happy now (drugs will do that) We try to talk Chris into going to Rose's house to get a quick nap. Sweetly, he refuses to leave Em's side. So Rose and I go to her house to take a nap, with instructions for them to call if anything happens. So we go take a two hour nap. I answer the phone when Chris calls and summons us back to the hospital. Em's mom is headed in, and "stuff has happened"
We get back to the hospital, no surly rent-a-cops now, the hospital is open. Em still looks stoned, apparently she's now at 10 cm and they mannualy broke her water at 7:30, while Chris was sleeping. So now we just wait. Em is starting to feel the contractions now, because they are stronger.

about noon they decide that Em should start pushing when she feels the strong contractions. She tries several differnt positions and settles on sitting half recline with her feet on the "pull bar" but she doesn't have much stregnth in her legs, thanks to the drugs. She starts pushing upon contractions. Various nurses and doctors wander in and out of the room. Finally the doctor stays with us.
"Daddy, do you want to see the baby's head crowning?"
"Do i have to?"
In other words, Chris is there for support, not visuals ;)
After an hour of pushing baby girl wilson decides that she's ready. Her head peaks out, with the next push she's half out. The nurse tells Emilie to reach down and grab her. Emilie is tired and drugged, and clapsed on to my hand, so the nurse takes her hand and helps her pull up the baby on the next push.
Mom's first words to the baby "Hi conehead" Yeah, that doesn't really work for a first name does it?

Funny thing, the nurse said after a few minutes "oh, I didn't even check to see if it was a girl or not" I say "but all the clothes are pink" She says "well, it better be a girl then" And it was.

Overall expereince was amazing. I'm completely amazed by little Emilie!

The next day, the baby gets a name. Amelia Rei Wilson! More stories to follow :D
